Home was on the high seas with American Hawaii Cruises in the early 1990's. Evenings I played piano and each morning the S.S. Constitution docked at a different Hawaiian island.
The Jerry Michelsen Trio then performed through August of 1992 at The Sheraton Princeville Hotel on the island of Kauai.
The following year we moved to the Caribbean.
The Jerry Michelsen Trio played for four years, six nights a week, four sets a night in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After stints at the Condado Beach Hotel, The Condado Plaza Hotel,
and Sweeney's, we settled in for three years at
The El San Juan Hotel and Casino and Dar Tiffany. The Trio left Puerto Rico and played on another cruise ship in 1996. We toured for several months through the Caribbean on the
M.S. Ryndam with Holland America Cruises. We stayed with the ship through the Panama Canal and returned to the waters of Alaska for a few more months. After seventeen years,
the original, traveling and touring formation of
The Jerry Michelsen Trio ended in 1996 when we disembarked in Vancouver, British Columbia. I then joined the stage band at Catch a Rising Star at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. By December of 1996, I was living in Encinitas, California. At the end of the 1990's I turned my full attention to teaching and played as a soloist and later reformed The Jerry Michelsen Trio with
Southern California musicians for private functions,
The Horton Grand Hotel, and San Diego Convention Center conventions.
