How I Teach Harmonica Lessons

My teaching reflects my experience as a life long student and performing artist. I'm a classically trained pianist and composer seasoned by many years of playing in jazz, blues, and rock bands. I've performed as a blues and rock harmonica player and also played harmonica as a folk musician in Appalachian and Irish music string bands. I've developed my own method of teaching harmonica that involves playing along with recorded music. It's useful to look at some of the written music notation systems for harmonica playing that have developed over the years as an aid to remembering songs and riffs. Often the best way to learn is to immitate a teacher and to play by example. Everyone has a distinct skill set and with harmonica, as with piano or music theory, I customize my teaching to a students' personal goals.
